Why develop food safety signs?
We always look for ways to improve how we share information. We already provide food safety inspection, closure and outbreak information on our website so everyone can make informed choices. But few people know about or use these reports.
Other counties share inspection reports with signs posted in restaurants. Several found that people use the signs and they help improve food safety.
We are drafting signs for restaurants and other places in Pierce County to post. Here’s an overview of our process. This is subject to change as we improve the process.
|| Food Advisory Board reviews food safety rating systems by other counties.
|| Food Advisory Board and Information Sharing workgroup provide input.
| Health Department Board of Health and staff provide input.
|| Focus groups with English speakers.
|| Focus groups with Spanish and Vietnamese speakers.
|| Share public survey through social media, email lists and presentations.
|| Food Advisory Board reviews public input and recommends next steps.
|| Health Department develops process.
||Train Health Department food safety inspectors and other staff.|
| June to December
|| Share signs and process with restaurants during inspections.
|| Adjust based on feedback.
|| Mail food safety rating signs throughout Pierce County.
