Refugee Health Program

Connecting new arrivals with essential care

We partner with a local healthcare provider to provide refugee medical screenings. The program is available to people who move to Pierce and Thurston counties from other countries, states or counties.

Who we serve

You may qualify if you are:

• A refugee or asylee. Status must be granted.
• A Cuban or Haitian entrant.
• Amerasian.
• Here on a Special Immigrant Visa (SIV).
• A victim of human trafficking with an Office of Refugee Resettlement letter.
• An unaccompanied minor in foster care.

Your medical screening

Important: Your first appointment must be within 90 days of your arrival or the date your status was granted.

What is included?

• Physical exams: Health screening, including stool, lead, and anemia tests.
• Vaccinations: Required immunizations for school, work, and residency.
• Health testing: Screening for tuberculosis (TB), HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and hepatitis B and C.
• Referrals: Help with dental, vision, and emotional wellness.
• “Green card” support: Certification of Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record (form I-693) for adjustment of permanent status.
