Low vaccination rates put kids at risk

As with other areas across the country, many school districts in Pierce County have low vaccination rates. For kindergartners, only two of 15 districts in the county meet the 95 percent MMR vaccination (measles, mumps and rubella) threshold necessary for community immunity for measles.

Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department is working closely with schools, the legislature and the community to address the gap. Free vaccines are available in our state to every child under the age of 19.

These are the vaccination rates for Pierce County school districts. Washington State Department of Health collects and reports this data annually.
