Increasing healthy births in our community

We educate pregnant women and their families about pregnancy and infant health. Black Infant Health is a partnership between:

  • Local African American churches.
  • Community groups.
  • Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department.

How does the Black Infant Health program work?

We rely on a Health Ministry model, which includes a network of:

  • Churches.
  • Community groups.
  • Pastors.
  • Health Ministers.
  • Public health nurses.

Health Ministers

Health Ministers meet with pregnant women and families, offering one-on-one contact and social support. They link families with basic needs:

  • Housing.
  • Food.
  • Transportation.
  • Clothing.
  • Baby items.
