Natural Yard Care

The Health Department's Natural Yard Care program promotes environmental lawn and landscape maintenance to homeowners and professional landscapers across Pierce County.

Natural yard care practices emphasizes proper plant health care, including proper lawn grass management, using water and fertilizer resources judiciously, planting the right plant in the right place, and preserving healthy soil conditions.

By using Natural yard care practices, you can do your part to help the environment while having a beautiful yard that is healthy for your family, pets, and neighborhood.

5 steps to Natural Yard Care:

  1. Build healthy soils
  2. Plant right for your site
  3. Practice smart watering
  4. Think twice before using pesticides
  5. Practice natural lawn care

The Health Department is sponsoring fun and informative "Natural Yard Care" workshops this fall. At each site, the workshops are presented in a series, offering differing yard care topics each evening. Tacoma and Bonney Lake workshops are FREE! Puyallup workshops have a nominal fee. Space is limited and pre-registration is encouraged. Contact Geoff Rinehart at 253 798-4587 or grinehart@tpchd.org for more information or to register.
