Community Discussion: Impacting Root Causes of Health Inequities Through Prevention
Friday, March 28, 2008
10:00 AM - 3:30 PM
The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department's Prevention Priorities Program along with community partners will be hosting a community discussion on Health Equity and Social Justice March 28th 2008 10:00 am – 3:30 pm at the University of Washington, Tacoma campus Carwein Auditorium. The program includes a showing of a new PBS series Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making us Sick? "In Sickness and In Wealth."
The summit is built around the National Association of County & City Health Officials (NACCHO) Health Equity Campaign: A Dialogue to Action a national effort to stimulate debate and bring about a change to eliminate health inequities.
Because the root causes of health inequities lay across many sectors-health care, affordable housing, urban planning, labor, transportation, economics, education, etc. the strength of any change lies in the ability to
- Bring people together to advance dialogue within and across sectors,
- Discuss actions, initiatives or policies that promote health equity, and
- Identify specific ways people can engage to make effective change
