Smoking in Public Places
As of December 8, 2005, the Clean Indoor Air Act prohibits smoking in all indoor public spaces and places of employment. Need to file a complaint, click here.
The Quit Smoking programs listed on this Health Department brochure can provide tobacco users with the resources they need to successfully quit using tobacco products. Programs offered include: tobacco quit classes, cessation support groups, access to nicotine replacement therapy and the Washington State Tobacco Quitline. Eighty percent of smokers surveyed say that they would like to quit. With the assistance of these programs, we hope to make the desire to quit a reality.

The Effects of Secondhand SmokeSecondhand Smoke is the third leading preventable cause of death in the United States. Each year 53,000 people in the United States die from secondhand smoke-related heart disease and cancers.
Cross Cultural Collaboration of Pierce County
This Collaboration works to reduce disparities in tobacco prevention and control. Asian/Pacific Islander, Latino/Hispanic, African American, Native American, Low-Income, and Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender citizens participate in this effort.
The Youth Tobacco Prevention program provides opportunities for youth groups to increase their awareness and involvement in tobacco prevention.
Workplace Programs
Staff works with local employers, community partners, and businesses to create and offer effective workplace quit tobacco programs and expertise, particularly with large health systems.
Tobacco Advisory Board
The Tobacco Advisory Board of Pierce County is dedicated to improving the health of citizens of Pierce County by reducing tobacco use. Members include non-profit organizations, schools, businesses, health care organizations, and public agencies.
