Wood Smoke Reduction Program

February 4, 2011

Wood smoke is one of the main sources of pollution in Washington. It poses a health risk to everyone - even those who don't burn wood.

Due to high levels of wood smoke pollution, a significant portion of Tacoma and Pierce County is in violation of federal air-quality standards. A main cause is the smoke that comes from people heating their homes with wood during the fall and winter months.

To address local pollution and health concerns, the City of Tacoma, Pierce County, Puget Sound Clean Air Agency and other partners are offering a program and money to help people remove and replace their old, polluting wood stoves with cleaner, more efficient home heating systems.
