Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)

What exactly is a sexually transmitted disease?

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are generally acquired by sexual contact. The organisms that cause STDs may pass from person to person in blood, semen, or vaginal and other bodily fluids.

It's possible to contract STDs from people who seem perfectly healthy—people who, in fact, aren't even aware of being infected. Many STDs cause no symptoms in some people, which is why it is important to get tested if you think you might have an STD.
