Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
How do I know if I have an STD?
Many times people will not have any signs that let them know they may be infected. If you have an unusual discharge, stop having sex and see your health care provider at once. If someone tells you that you have had sex with someone who has a sexually transmitted disease, see your health care provider. Do not wait.
Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department will be happy to help you find a health care provider for examinations and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, call 253 798-6410.
How can I keep from getting an STD?
The best way to avoid getting a sexually transmitted disease is:
- Do not have sex.
- Be in a long-term monogamous relationship with someone who does not have a sexually transmitted disease.
- If you choose to have sex, learn how to use latex condoms correctly and use them every time.
