Local Hazardous Waste Management Plan
The Tacoma-Pierce County Local Hazardous Waste Management Plan was created in 1991 in response to the Washington State Hazardous Waste Management Act (RCW 70.105). This Act required local jurisdictions to develop a plan for the safe and responsible management of hazardous wastes generated by residents, and from businesses or institutions generating small quantities of hazardous waste: 1991 LHWMP.
In 2007, an advisory group, representing state and local government, businesses and citizen groups was formed to evaluate the current hazardous waste management system, and provide recommendations for future program enhancements. However, due to funding and staff reductions a formal Plan Update was postponed.
Beginning in the fall of 2011, a Local Hazardous Waste Management Plan Update is being drafted that will include those recommendations made by the 2007 advisory group, and will incorporate more recent program developments, trends, and survey data to provide a comprehensive planning document.
Please visit this website for future updates on this project, and for the opportunity to provide comments on the draft update to the Local Hazardous Waste Management Plan.
